After crocheting this necklace in brown-tones with 15º seed beads, I had to try it again in blue-tones with 11º seed beads. Here is the result:

Capricho - the necklace

When I saw the instructions for this necklace at www.creationperles.com, I knew, I must have it. Here it is – in my favored color

and here with my newest model:

The base is made with seed beads size 11 and 15 in crystal. Then I used facetted beads 3mm in light sapphire and capri blue and 4mm in capri blue and navy blue. It was a pleasure to bead this necklace. I want to repeat it with other colors.

The forum of http:///www.perlenhaekeln.de celebrated its 7th anniversary. For that reason an e-book with the title “Die Perlenhäklerin” came out. In this story you can find the instructions how to make Gentilli-Spirals. Of course I had to try it too.

The spiral is created by a special crochet technique. I used Matsunos size 11/0 and crochet yarn strength 50 for my necklace.

Christmas I began with another project, the Ellipse-Necklace by Marcia Decoster. Unfortunately the informations about the material were wrong. I had not enough beads for the rope. I ordered more beads and changed my plans. Now I put the pendant on a crochet-rope.

Now you also can see better the hexcuts, which are nearly unseen on the pendant.

By the way, this necklace goes excellent with my second, new summer dress and it will accompany me too.

A UFO has landet. I began this necklace more than two years ago. The bunches of grapes and the crochet rope had been finished for a long time but I could not decide, how to connect them all.

I used Miyukis seed beads 15/0. The brown rope is crocheted with 8 beads per round.

The bunches of grapes are composed by little crocheted, hollow spheres.

Lariat

I started with the instructions for the "Royal Chains Lariat" by Kelly Wiese. I got a bit confused with the inches and yards, so it is now longer than I wanted. The necklace now goes down to the navel.

Of course I could not use pre-fabricated drops so I had to crochet.

The 3mm beads, I had in my store, were not the right colour, so I used 4 mm facetted beads but the pattern did not work with these, so I joined both parts by zig-zagging.

Sunflowers

I began this necklace in September. I was inspired by a painting of Vincent Van Gogh and, even though it is Winter, some sunflowers always go on.

I used again Miyuki seed beads 15/0 with turkish crochet yarn nº 70. The colours are: 0148, 0514, 0008F, 0304, 2422F, 0520 and 0295

The circumference of the necklace goes from 20 to 40 beads per round and vice versa.

Hibiscus Bracelet

When crocheting the necklace from "Perlen-Poesie" I had the idea that it surely would look nice with more colour. Of course I had to try it. Here's the result:

Again I strung it in one go (10.76 m). I usted Miyuki Rocailles 15/0 in 0511 (pearl white), 0151 (dark blue) and the whatever the leftover box still had. The crochet yarn again was nº 70 Turkish cotton yarn.

Necklace from "Perlen-Poesie nº 5"

I also could not resist this great necklace from Antje Grünwald. I had to crochet. However, I did not completely follow the pattern. First, the colours were changed to silver/hematite, then I strung all the beads for the necklace at one go. I hate to knot threads. Here are the results:

I used Miyuki Rocailles 15/0 of the colours 0181 and 0451, Turkish cotton yarn nº70. It has already attracted attention during the development phase, because I had busy an entire waiting room. I am particularly pleased that even men have appeared interested in the discussion. The typical Spanish man holds otherwise distinguished distance to manual work :-)

To make the braid stand out slightly from the background, I used seed beads in two sizes (15/0 and 11/0).

Continue crocheting. First, a necklace with points had its turn. This pattern I had already crocheted three years ago. I loved this necklace, my best friend too. Therefore I have sought out this pattern again.

The broken wave

When I first saw the "Waves of Pearls", I knew that I wanted to have it. It took a little longer, around one to two years, until I could call a copy of the instructions my own. It was republished in the Collector's Edition of Beadwork.

Yes and then I discovered that the waves did not lay the way I wanted. So I redesigned the necklace and completed it with a crochet rope.

As the main color I used Delicas No. 609, one of my new favorite colors.

In this form it lays nicely around the neck.

The crocheted spheres with triangle pattern, following the instructions on the second CD by Birte Jannsen and Birgit Bergemann, were now just lying around for about a year. Now I've finally managed to put it to a necklace and because I meant it a little too well, the rope has become too long, thats why I put the knot. But looks as if it was by design :-)

It is very important not to thread too tight otherwise everything will twist.

A single flower was too little for me, so what do you do with it? I fixed it on a crochet rope, naturally.

An elf

What does a woman do if she has been sentenced to a mandatory break? She sits in her corner of the sofa and works on stuff from their to-do list.
A project on this list was the garden fairy - La fatina del giardino - the guide was kindly provided by Renata Garlato. I understand Italian, if I hear it, so I had to read the instructions aloud. Renata would have enjoyed herself immensely, but it worked. Thank you, Renata, for those detailed and good instructions.

Because I've worked with left-overs, my elf came out blue. First it looked more like "Betty Boop" and with uncombed hair she has something witch-like. I like it anyway.

In contrast to the instructions (Brick stitch), I have beaded the wings in peyote.

Jagged necklace

I'm still on the fall tone trip, probably because of my somewhat sad mood. Nevertheless, I would not deny you this necklace. It is beaded to the design by Rebecca Peapples that was in the Bead & Button August published in 2006.

I used Delicas in colors 099, 101 and 103 as well as 134 seed beads and 4 mm Bicones in a copper tone. The contrast between the 099 and the 101, that in the bag is still quite noticeable, is hard to see in the finished piece.

Competition Colour "Green" - Part 2

My second contribution is the green lizard and I can not believe it, it made 1 Place in the contest colour "green" by http://www.perlenhaekeln.de.

I am particularly glad that a crochet was able to stand out between all the laborious looming, and embroidery.

First, I did not have any good ideas on the topic "Green", until I saw a magnificent specimen of a green lizard in our garden and so the idea to crochet one of these animals came up. My lizard is 54 cm long from nose to tail, which comes pretty lose to the natural model.

It was a free interpretation of nature. For the body and tail I mixed Rocailles 11/0 in various shades of green and, for the body I added 318 Bicones 3 mm. The Bicones are in various precious and semi-precious stone colours.

I started at the tail end (3 beads per round) and chrocheted towards the head. Since the head was not so easy to crochet, I let the neck end in a ball, crocheted the head separately and then slipped it over the ball and sew it.

I would also like to thank all the passengers of AIDAaura, Deck 6 starboard side, which have always remotivated me when I was once again on undoing something.

The head was sculptured with an open mouth. For the eyes and tongue, I used seed beads in size 15/0.

The legs were made separatelly, increasingly crocheting with from 5 to 15 per round and in each case they end in a hemisphere. The claws were strung.

Competition Colour "Green" - Part 1

The Forum of http://www.perlenhaekeln.de organized another contest. The topic was the colour "Green" and every technique could be used.
Green is not really my colour, but I still took the challenge. My first post is a necklace that mostly is beaded in Herringbone.

I have called it "Cartagena de las Indias," named after the city in Colombia, where emeralds are offered arround almost every corner. Since the real stones exceed my budget, I present you my version in crystal:

Since I do not wear rings, my daughter is taking it around.

Creative Connections

A friend asked me for help, since she did not completely understand the instructions in "Bead & Button" February 2010. Well, to help her, I had to thread the bracelet myself.

It is nice but not my style. The problem is solved. It was because of Antonio Calles goes through the connecting beads a second time to give the whole thing more support. But then there are still problems with some seed beads, because you have to pass the thread several times through different beads but the holes are not big enough. It is easier, if you omitted the second time threading through them.

Another Daisy

By multiple demand from a single person, I crocheted another daisy-rope. This time, the rope was of 11/0er seed beads, the loops are made of 15/0.

For the flower baskets I've made loops of three pearls, for the petals of five.

Now I just hope that its new owner likes her necklace.

Shell disc II

In this necklace I processed the first of the shell discs that I've brought back from my trip. Since it was afraid of being alone it got the company of a starfish. The rope is crocheted.

On my last trip one of my necklaces remained on St. Lucia. Since I liked the pendant of "Interlocked Necklace" by Laura McCabe, I too wanted to have a necklace like that. A colleague of my husband also wants to surprise his wife with this necklace. So I made two similar ones. I've strung the pendant following the instructions, but crocheted the necklace. Then I could not decide which necklace I wanted to keep and have delegated the decision to the lords of creation. To prevent misunderstandings, the necklaces were given names:

Of course the sister is named "Nanni".

Here are both sisters together. The decision was made, Nanni stays with me and Hanni goes on tour. I hope, her new owner likes her.

Blue Iris

I have finally managed to finish a UFO. This crochet I have already started in June, but then set aside due to lack of time.

I used about 60g seed beads 11/0 in blue-iridescent. The circumference of the tube is 9 beads, the braid is composed of three ropes of 4 beads in the extent and with two wooden balls with 15 mm and two with a 20 mm diameter, crocheted in.

At the ends, I beaded fringes using the Coral technique.

A little finger exercise

Although I worked on the theme "Green" during most of the trip, I also felt like doing something in a different color. I've tried it with a modification of the "Glitterati" by Bia Alessi from the B&B December 2007.

My necklace is symmetrically. I also had to make a central web, as the Rivolis always twisted when wearing them.

Actually, I wanted to create something Geometric but somehow, in my case there only flowers seem to come out.

Some more travel arrangements. In the B&B December 2009 the "Dahlia" was laughing at me. So I had to make it urgently. Here it is:

It is made with Delicas of the colors 0165 and 0046. On the back I sew a safety pin, so that I can pin it on like a brooch.

Here I have used Miyukis 8/0 in the colors of 0004 and 0005 and leftovers in 11/0 and 15/0. This technique has fascinated me, and I don't understand at all why I refused to try it earlier.

At last something for me

Last year I was going on a great trip. During this journey, my husband and I celebrated our silver wedding and then there were Christmas and New Year. Clearly, I needed the perfect outfit with the appropriate jewelry for this occasion. So I finally took the time and worked for me.

My dress for the silver wedding was steel blue with silver edging. To this I made a "Belle Helene" according to the instructions of Peetje.

I simply put it on a simple necklace.

Then there is the zig-zag necklace that has been strung quite often here in the exact colors of another dress.

The third piece is from Kara Jacob from the B&B from August 2009. The name is
"Through & Through", and it is inspired by the works of the Xhosa in South Africa. It threads itself easily and looks great. Convince yourself.

Here I used 11/0 Miyuki seed beads of the colors 0005, 0003F and 0577.

Concerning my current pictures, I have to go back a little. When I started with the wonderful hobby of beading, naturally I was looking for stuff at nearby stores. Finally, less than two years ago, a small handicraft craft store opened in the nearby urbanisation. The owner, Helen, is relatively open to the "Beading" even though the clientele, British women, mostly make cards. Helen was also very brave and ordered seed beads and other accessories. Unfortunately, she did not consult me before.

For the first year in which I mostly gave courses in the bead crochet, these materials were good enough. But since beginning of the next year my ladies also wanted do off-loom techniques. I have shown them the basics and we have worked with the material. Now they are getting better at it and the requirements of the material rise. After lengthy negotiations, Helen is now willing to order better material, as soon as eliminate the existing stocks.

So I sat down and created something from the inventory to animate my ladies and, since Christmas was arround the corner, hopefully also to bring one or the other piece to the woman (or man). Here are two examples:

The available material were: seed beads 11/0, purple frosted Rocailles 9/0, iridescent blue and blackberry, stars of glass, stones, round beads 8 mm in blackberry and out of my stock a couple of seed beads in 15/0.

The basic idea for the flowers came from the instructions for the "Petite Fleur" by Fofinha. But since I did not have the indicated material, the flowers were adapted to the available material. The necklace was made using the Herringbone technique.

The starfish is the well-known one from Alexargai, but in the combination of 9/0 and 11/0 seed beads. The rope is crocheted with 5 beads per round.

Two-headed tree snake

Once again, something crocheted. I wanted to put this idea into practices before, but canceled it for some reason. Now I've started it again and this time I fnished the necklace.

I bought the 2.7-mm seed beads in a large pack in Barcelona. They are very irregular, what gives the whole more structure. The eyes are 4mm bicones. The body is crocheted with 18 beads per round using nº50 Turkish cotton yarn.

When I had the book "Flights of Fancy" in my hands, I was impressed. Everyone can thread Peyote in straight shapes, but those contours seduced me to try it at least once. I took the original contours of the "Possibilities" pendant and then modeled it in color. The following outcomes were achieved:

I completed the pendant with a crochet rope with a circumference of 5 beads, made of black seed beads 11/0.

then he can tell or bead a lot. I am a declared fan of cruises and have used the days at sea on the trip to the Far North to do some beading.

Actually I wanted to crochet too, but I raised the pattern wrong all the time, so this necklace wandered back into the pocket, when I was still on the plane and hasn't been seen since. Somehow, my preparations were bugged from the beginning. I planned so much and then packed the wrong things.

First I started the Ruffled Bangle by Shelley Nybakke. In the middle of the process I ran out of beads and had to wait until I received a new oder of beads. But now it's been completed for quite a while.

Then I tried myself with Laura McCabe's "Cascade", just to find that the largest stone had a different cut than the other two. So it was rescheduled again, and the largest stone became the "Swirling Sun" from the B & B August 2008. The two small ones are now waiting for the big brother of the same cut.

Yes and then I made my largest project, until now; the "Collecting Leaves" by Linda Gettings from the B&B December 2007.

I made the necklace longer than described in the instructions and installed a different fastener.

This year I've been involved in two competitions.
First, there was the competition with the topic "Rainbow" on www.perlenhaekeln.de.

For this I had thought up a rainbow in rope form. For it, I've taken three tones of each color, crocheted them with 30 beads per round with 15/0 seed beads and gradual color transitions. When the rope was finished, I had to, despite of the many previous calculations, notice that it did not lay at the neck at all, because it was too short for its thickness. Thus, I had to discard the piece for the contest and undo it.
Since the issue still was on my mind, I remade it, only making the crochet sections on each color a little longer, but I couldn't complete it on time for the deadline. Here is the result:

I then submitted a quick fix solution to the competition, which considering how it came into being, performed quite well. Here come the "Rainbow-Spheres":

Then there was the competition of I-Perlen with the topic of "Flowers". For this I crocheted a framework of 13/0 seed beads.

On this I sew the individual primula-flowers and leaves.

I think they're pretty close to the original flowers.

A bit of Glitter must be

After I had obtained the book "Creating Crystal Jewelry" from Laura McCabe, naturally I had to start beading. Speaking honestly, I noticed the original jewels overloaded. So I picked the Cream Pies and then combined them with crocheted ropes.

First I tried to make the Dahlia.

Next in row was the pendant from the "Interlocked Necklace":

Yes, and as the last object of desire so far a "Crown Jewel" had to be made.

To prevent, having to sew on the rope, I made it thinner for the passage through the jewel. That was not an easy crochet :-)

Mini loops

Something that somewhat bothered me about the spring flower necklace, was that the flowers did not stand out like I wanted. My husband gave me the idea to try to make them more plastic. So I came up with the mini loops. Here, the motifs are represented not by a single pearl but by loops with 3, 5 or even 7 beads each.

During my experiments I realized that broad-scale patterns were not well suited for this technique, as the tube twists and sometimes becomes very hard and is rigid. The best combination is a basic rope with 11/0 seed beads and loops with 15/0.

Since I love open bangles, because of the easy dressing and undressing, here is another bangle with the leaf motif:

Finally, I modified the lizard motive and crocheted this necklace:

And since the necklace alone was to boring, I also crocheted the freshly hatched lizard with its egg.

A cornfield in the summer

When I had the book "The Beaders Floral" by Liz Thornton & Jill Devon in my hands, I immediately fell in love with the cornflowers shown there. The decision to try to depict a cornfield in summer, was quickly made. The implementation took a little longer, which was also due to the fact that for a long time the poppy successfully resisted to look the way I wanted it.

The necklace is made of Miyuki seed beads in 11/0. The rope is crocheted in two shades of yellow with circumference of 10. I've split it for the poppy flower and derived a stem that ends in a crocheted sphere. The petals are strung in brickstitch.

Scarab

On the subject of Egypt, I made a third piece that I did not but then submit to the competition because the Scarab is designed by Felinda Bullock. I drew the eye of Horus.

Since the principle of an open bangle worked well, I also used it for this piece. The inside is an aluminum rod with rounded edges.

In 2008 there were a few crocheting competions, which were then splitted of from the competitions in the free technique, that is crocheting and/or all other beading techniques.

Right at the start of the year the topic of winter, ice and cold came up. Here's my contribution:

This necklace is crocheted with 11/0 seed beads. The igloo and the iceberg were crocheted or in Peyote with 15/0 seed beads.

I have run several trials until I found a way to fix an aurora on a crochet rope.

Then the topic, that has been my favourite till now, because I had so many ideas about it, came up. Due to lack of money and time I participated with only two pieces on the topic of "Egypt".
First I wanted to represent the Nile Valley, as I imagine it through the novels by Christian Jacq.

This necklace is crocheted with 15/0 seed beads. The palm fronds were made in peyote. The papyrus boat is an original creation on silver wire, to give it the necessary strength. For the river I've split up the rope to get more "space" to work on.

My second contribution was the "Sehetepibre's necklace of blessing" Here I have a rope crocheted with hieroglyphs. The name of the necklace came up when my husband tried to translate these hieroglyphs.

Here 11/0 seed beads are crocheted in to a necklace with 20 beads per round. The Cobra is also crocheted, the collar is made using the peyote technique. This necklace lays very well on the neck by its relatively large weight.

Then came the summer and so the “Summerholeswap”. Again a pattern and two colors there were given.
That came out of it:

In this rope I've crocheted 13/0 seed beads, that I brought from Vienna.

And then came the free contests. The first topic was “color is fun - Purple”.
For that I made this necklace:

The rope is crocheted and the leaves are made according using the technique for "Russian leaves". I used seed beads in 11/0.

Finally, there was still the subject of "Cellini". For that again I contributed something in purple.

More flowers

After I had finished the pansies, I found that one half of the flowers were upside down. So I had to make a new necklace, where this was not be the case. Only making pansies was just too boring to me then, so I added a few other spring flowers such as daffodils and tulips.

Again, I used 15/0 seed beads with 20 beads per round.

After I received the book "The Beaded Garden" by Diane Fitzgerald, I had to make another version with beaded spring flowers.

I crocheted a 8 bead-rope with 11/0 seed beads and then flowers and leaves in Peyote.

Pansies

I love flowers and pansies are among my favorites. I was always amazed how versatile these small, robust flowers are. This gave me the idea to crochet a rope with this design.

For this necklace I crocheted 15/0 seed beads with 20 beads per round. Here is a detailed view.

I loved the crocheting competions in the http://www.perlenhaekeln.de-forum, unfortunately they are currently not being held, probably the interest has shifted more towards free competition. Following are my contributions, which mostly took part only as „also-runs“, but which stimulated me to take interest in the given topics. Here are the gems from the year 2007.
On the subject of bracelets and bangles, I contributed the following:

This bracelet is crocheted of 2 mm bugles, without fastener, the spiral was split into three parts and plaited, and then combined again. Even though it did not do very well in the competition, it has quickly found a lover, who often wears it.

My second article on this topic was this bracelet. It sits openly and has a solid wire as internal structure. The dragon motif was drawn by my son. I have crocheted seed beads in 15/0 with 30 beads per round.

In the summer there was a swap. The scale and pattern were given and two colors colours could be used.

Then came the topic of “forest and meadows”.

It was the fault of this little owl that I did participate in this competition. I saw it and knew what I would make of it.

The topic of the last competition this year was “children jewelry”. I really liked the idea a lot, unfortunately, the feedback from the hospital, where we donated the parts, was very thin. I wanted to make something that a boy could like, so I crocheted a key chain.

After figuring out how to include photos, I would like to present a few older pieces of jewelry before going on with the agenda.
